North East Wedding Planning Guide
Wedding Planning Guide for Couples in the North East
First of all, congratulations on your engagement! You've got the ring, the excitement, and maybe even your wedding dress (or at least a Pinterest board full of ideas). But now comes the fun part: planning the wedding. As wedding photographers based in the North East, we are undoubtedly biased, but we are blessed with a host of amazing venues and we’ve had the pleasure of capturing weddings in most of them. We’re here to offer some advice and hopefully make the prospect of planning for your day a little less daunting.
1. Pick Your Date & Venue (And Don't Forget Your Photographer!)
Choosing your wedding date is one of the first big steps. If you are looking for a specific date / venue then be sure to book early. If you are more flexible on dates then you may get a great deal from your chosen venue and many venues will offer some very special deals if you are looking to get married sometime over the next 12 months as venues look to fill available dates. Do your research and then get out there and have a look. Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire have some amazing venues but ultimately, you’ll know what’s right for you. If you are looking for ideas then be sure to ask. We’d be happy to give some suggestions. When you’ve booked your venue then turn your attention to a photographer. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera or being the centre of attention so your photographer should someone you feel relaxed with and who can help you on your wedding day. We would say that of course but if you know who you want then get them booked.
2. Budgeting: How to Keep Your Wallet Happy
Ah, the wedding budget – the thing we all know we need, but don’t really want to talk about. It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of planning your dream wedding in the North East, but remember to focus on what matters most. Your wedding venue is going to be your biggest expense so don’t forget what we said earlier about being flexible with your date, you could grab a bargain. If amazing wedding photos are at the top of your list (and they should be!), make sure to allocate a portion of your budget to a photographer who will capture your day in a way that’s personal and timeless.
3. Pick Your Theme (But Keep It Simple!)
Whether you're envisioning a traditional wedding in a grand venue or something more modern and minimalist, your wedding theme should reflect your personalities as a couple. If you’re getting married in one of the stunning North East venues, like a coastal spot in Tynemouth or a countryside location in Durham, make sure your theme complements the space. A little goes a long way – a few thoughtful touches will ensure your day is stylish without overwhelming the photos.
4. Plan Your Timeline (You’ll Thank Me Later)
A good wedding timeline is essential – and not just for the reception. From getting ready in the morning to your first dance at night, there’s a lot to fit into your wedding day. Give yourself plenty of time for everything, especially for those precious moments you’ll want your photographer to capture. If you’ve got family members traveling from across the North East or further afield, don’t forget to factor in time for group photos and candid moments. Trust me, you’ll appreciate the time cushion when you’re not rushing around!
5. Don’t Forget the Little Details (They Tell Your Story)
Your wedding day is about so much more than the ceremony and reception – it’s about the tiny moments that make it truly unique. The bouquet, your wedding shoes, the laughter between you and your partner, and even that hilarious moment when your uncle decides to take the dance floor by storm – these are the moments that tell your story. Be sure to leave room in your wedding day for capturing those little details that will be remembered for years to come.
6. Make Time for Fun (It’s Your Day!)
Your wedding day isn’t just about the dress or the flowers – it’s about celebrating your love with your nearest and dearest. So make sure to relax and HAVE FUN! Go with the flow on the day and don’t stress about the small stuff. Whether you’re tying the knot in a quaint church in Newcastle or a barn wedding in Durham, take time to enjoy the company of your friends and family. Your photographer will be there to capture the smiles, laughs, and moments that make your day unforgettable.
7. Eat, Drink, and Enjoy – But Don’t Skip the Food!
I can’t stress this enough – make sure to eat! Between the excitement and all the wedding tasks, it’s easy to forget to grab a bite, but trust me, you’ll need the energy. Plus, you don’t want your photographer catching you at your most “hangry” moment. Take a moment to enjoy the food and drink, especially if you're having a reception at a local North East venue with great catering.
8. Post-Wedding Bliss (Or the Wedding Hangover!)
The wedding day flies by in a blur of love, joy, and maybe a few dance floor missteps. After it’s all over, it’s normal to feel like you’ve been hit by a bus (emotionally, of course). Take some time to relax and reflect on your beautiful day – and don’t forget to enjoy your wedding photos! Those moments captured by a photographer will be there for you to cherish for years to come.
Conclusion:
Planning a wedding in the North East can be an exciting and joyful experience, and it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Whether you're dreaming of a seaside ceremony in Tynemouth or a countryside celebration in Northumberland, keep these tips in mind to ensure your day is as relaxed and memorable as possible. And when it comes to your wedding photos, remember to invest in a photographer who understands your vision and can capture the magic of your big day.
Best of luck with your wedding planning – and when you're ready to book a photographer who knows the North East inside and out, we’re here to help!
